“The future of automotive technology is here, and it’s in the form of Tesla’s latest software update.”

Renowned code sleuth and Tesla aficionado GreenTheOnly has unearthed several new additions to Tesla vehicles with the 2023.44.1 update. Apart from the front camera washer button, the update is anticipated to introduce a Shaka media player and an enhanced ability to adjust playback speed in Apple Podcasts, among other undisclosed features.

A Look at the New Features

The front camera washer button is expected to debut before the Cybertruck’s launch next week. This electric pickup is expected to incorporate the front camera. However, there has been some ambiguity regarding whether the refreshed Model 3, dubbed “Highland,” would include the front fascia camera, as Tesla originally posted photos of the vehicle featuring the new camera. However, initial deliveries of the updated Model 3 have excluded the camera, leading Tesla to remove it from all images.

Speaking about the playback speed update for Apple Podcasts, Green has revealed that the associated file is aptly named apple_podcasts, confirming that the feature is specifically designed for Apple Podcasts.

Additional Features Coming with the Next Update

Below are the features Green reports will be included in Tesla’s vehicles with the subsequent update:

  • Front camera washer and activation button
  • Shaka media player
  • Apple Podcasts 1.25x, 1.5x, and 2x playback speeds
  • New IIHS seatbelt reminder mode with higher pitch and frequency
  • Cabin Camera can be used to turn on or off HOV lane use (requires additional cabin camera permission)
  • The most probable path navigation mode added
  • New low-voltage battery options added

According to Teslascope, the 2023.44.1 software update was first observed in some cars on Friday, and it’s currently just beginning to roll out to vehicles. However, detailed release notes are not yet available at the time of writing.

Tesla is well-known for regularly deploying over-the-air (OTA) software updates to enhance its vehicles, often introducing new features and adjusting existing ones. Live object-on-road detection and congestion fees at Superchargers are among the recent additions expected to debut in China, both spotted in update 2023.38.
